A Simple Guide to Boost Your Self-Esteem

If you're like most people, self-esteem is probably something you've struggled with. In fact, research has shown that over 80% of people struggle with varying levels of low self-esteem!

However, having a healthy sense of self-esteem is one of the most important components in living a satisfying and full life. If you feel like you need a confidence boost and want to gain a stronger sense of self-esteem, then keep reading.

  1. Stop comparing yourself to others.

When you're feeling down, it can be very easy to compare yourself to others. It's almost like a knee-jerk reaction: "I'm not as successful as that person," or "I don't have as many followers on Instagram." But the truth of the matter is, everyone has their own journey, and your path may be totally different from someone else's. Instead of comparing yourself to others, focus on your own progress and accomplishments. If you're working hard toward your goals, then you are doing great!

  2. Practice positive self-talk.

At the end of the day, it's all about what you say to yourself. If you constantly tell yourself that you're not good enough or that you'll never succeed, then it's no wonder why you don't feel confident in yourself! The best way to build up your self-esteem is through positive self-affirmations. Positive self-affirmations can help you realize your worth and value as a person.

Here are a few examples: I believe in me. I am not my mistakes. Positivity is a choice and I choose to be positive. I am enough. I deserve love, compassion and empathy.

  3. Pick positive people to surround yourself with.

Build a support network of people who will listen to you and support you when you need it most, whether that's through social media or in person! Being around people who make you feel good actually will increase your sense of self-esteem!

  4. Get serious about self-care.
It's important to take care of you if you want to be at your best. You have to make sure that you're doing good self-care. It's not just about what you eat—it's about how much sleep you get, how much time you spend outside, whether or not your work is meaningful and fulfilling, and whether or not you're doing things that make you happy. Bonus: good self-care will improve your self-esteem!

  5. Give to others.
The best way to feel good about yourself is to give back. We don’t necessarily mean financially but in your own time, energy, and talents. When you do things for others, you feel as though you have value. For example, smile and say “hi” to someone in the grocery store. You may be the only person that person has talked to all day! Giving back also helps others feel like they have value as well. It’s an easy way to make someone’s life better—and make yours better at the same time.
